National Minimum Wage Update – 2025

As of January 1st, 2025, the National Minimum Wage has increased to €13.50 per hour for adults aged 20 and over.
✅ What Can Be Included in the Minimum Wage?
The following reckonable components can be included:
✔️ Normal basic pay
✔️ Shift allowances or other similar payments
✔️ Any fee, bonus, or commission
✔️ Zero Hours payments
✔️ Board & lodgings
✔️ Service charges collected from customers and paid to employees through payroll (this does not include tips or service charges that the employer keeps and distributes themselves)
❌ Victimisation – Serious Consequences for Employers
Your employer cannot punish you for questioning your pay, how it's calculated, or requesting an increase you're entitled to. This is illegal under the Payment of Wages Act 1991.
To protect yourself, raise concerns in writing with your employer via email, WhatsApp, or text message, and keep a copy as evidence.
⚠️ Victimisation includes:
🚫 Being dismissed or threatened with dismissal
🚫 Reduction in hours or changes to your schedule as punishment
🚫 Being unfairly disciplined or reprimanded
🚫 Intimidation, bullying, or harassment
🚫 Unfair treatment compared to other employees
🚫 Any action taken against you for questioning your pay
💰 Did you know? If an employer penalises or dismisses you for asserting your right to fair pay, you could be entitled to compensation—potentially up to 2 years' salary in some cases.
